For the Spring 2021 semester, you have an opportunity to opt-in and try our new multiple-choice pre/post tests for the following Digital Clinical Experiences (DCEs) below:
- Health Assessment
- Mental Health
- Advanced Health Assessment
We hope to create a pre/post test for our remaining DCEs by Summer 2021.
This is a no-cost opt-in program. If you decide the pre-/post tests are a good fit for your course, you can request to have them added to your assignment list- https://link.shadowhealth.com/opt-in.
Our goal is to help faculty create another objective measure of student skills throughout the course. The pre-/post tests are designed to benchmark student progress and are not meant to be used as grades. The pre-test is identical to the post-test, and students will only see their categorical scores, not the correct answers. Questions generally assess the following areas:
- Subjective Data Collection
- Objective Data Collection
- Therapeutic Communication
Some experiences may assess different areas (i.e. medication administration in Pharmacology).
Using the links below, you can preview the questions in each of the pre-/post tests:
To get the most valid results we recommend:
- Students complete at least 75% of the Shadow Health assignment in-between the pre and post-tests.
- Requiring students to wait at least 14 days between pre and post-test attempts to reduce any practice or carryover effects.
The results of the Pre-/Post-Tests are provided at the end of the term as a paired t-test analysis upon request to show faculty their students' scores, overall improvement, and the efficacy of the tool in your course.
However, you can see in the Results Book whether or not students have completed the Pre-/Post-Tests.Since the Pre-Test is meant only to establish a baseline for students' knowledge at the beginning of the course, there is no feedback given as there is on the other assignments in the DCE.
Think of the Pre-/Post-Tests as more of a student progress measuring tool for faculty rather than an instructional tool. It is for this reason we recommend if faculty give points to this assignment, it is only complete/incomplete.
